Dr. Cheryl is a very brilliant woman, teacher, coach, friend, and a leader. I was attracted to her because of her unselfishness, and a willing heart to not only share the knowledge she has with those around her, but also to empower them to look beyond themselves. Dr. Cheryl, I thank you for everything, your wisdom, coaching, and for giving me a wing to fly on. Dr. Holly, as she prefers to be called, is currently a laboratory manager at Kaiser Permanente. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, she was an operational manager at Focus Diagnostics Inc., a subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics Inc. In this role, she was able to increase the quality of laboratory service while reducing operational costs. The ultimate challenge that exhibits her leadership skill was her role as manager of quality assurance at Focus Diagnostics Inc. Here she further honed her skills in project management and effective interpersonal communication. This position was particularly challenging due to employees unrest related to a pending physical relocation of the laboratory, yet she helped employees focused on the company’s commitment to quality. Through these roles, she acquired the reasoning, leadership, and communication skills for her role as coordinator for the newly-created Focus Diagnostics Inc. medical technologist training school. In this position, she gained first-hand experience developing an effective teaching program and communicating with students.
